The Sun God

We are the future because we create it.

Recalling the face of every student in last weekend's YUP! X-Startup Hà Nội class, I reflect on what they can contribute to the future. I am filled with the expansive energy of gratitude for having served the class so well.

When I say my class runs from 8 in the morning until… 6 the next morning, with nobody complaining of tiredness, feeling sleepy or wanting to leave, some friends think I am a young man with quite a sense of humor.

Yet that is the truth. A very important philosophy lies within this.

As an industry insider, I understand its every change clearly. I know X-Startup is the first (certainly) and perhaps currently the only course in Vietnam (I say currently because I do not know whether future programs will copy it) whose students study until morning, then go to work as usual without seeming tired at all (that is what they tell me).

Vietnamese meals are producing generations with cancer. Education causes many “crimes” in every sector. Healthcare still has many shortcomings, even as we must acknowledge the extremely hard work of doctors and medical staff. The environment is alarming. We see many people making money by harming others. We are deeply upset. But we are also tired of lamenting, complaining, and blaming. So we have decided to become investors: investing time, effort, and… the future of a new generation of humane startup entrepreneurs in Vietnam. We have our methods and our path, and whether small or large, we follow it diligently. River water does not intrude on well water. We simply walk our own path. By accumulating gradually, one day the impact will be substantial.

That is why we created YUP! That is why we want to focus more on the path of education (does anyone support me?).

I am a very imperfect person. I have made mistakes in life, including serious ones. But in business specifically, I remain proud that my path has been very Clean since I began. It is so “clean” that I have never had to go drinking to secure a contract, never accepted “intermediary” payments that harmed an organization, and never offered a product harmful to Vietnamese people. I have no shame in my heart about my path or the lifestyle I have designed for myself. It is very transparent, and I can confidently share it with young people without embarrassment.

I consider myself someone who knew how to make money from a young age. While still a student, I earned in a single work session what a middle manager earned in a month. When my friends graduated and went looking for jobs, earning a hundred million đồng a month was already normal for me. I know many people are even better at making money. The figures are meaningless because however high one person's earnings are, someone else's are higher. What is high to one person is low to another. So I almost never share my income. Those who follow me have probably noticed that this is one of the very rare times I have mentioned it in passing. What I want to emphasize is that I do not feel I have ever had to “dirty my hands” to make money.

That, in my view, is what helps me feel more at peace than ever.

Today I reread the messages students wrote to me last weekend. I must remind you that I am a person with many flaws. But in my business life, I do not want to disappoint you.

Thanks to you, I have learned another meaning of TMT in your hearts…
