After living several decades, witnessing so many ups and downs, and feeling that you already have plenty of bad habits, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions…
Perhaps… it would be hard to believe if I told you that.
You are perfection itself!
That “perfection” is light, love, joy, spontaneity, creativity…
It is you!
You were already ‘perfect’ from the beginning. There is nothing wrong with you. You have been perfect from the very first moments.
If you do not believe it, look at children, or your own child. Have you ever looked at a child, seeing their innocence, joy, spontaneity, creativity, and love… and then, even briefly, wished: ‘If only I could be like this child, carefree, loving life, without worries…’? That child truly is a joy. That child is happiness itself!
Have you forgotten that you too were such a baby when you were born? That means you came here, into this life, as happiness; you are happiness itself. That is your “original quality.”
But what happened?
We grow up, accumulate many negative memories, and “lose” our purity, transparency, and innocence. We think we are terrible, sinful… We no longer feel happy.
Actually, our inner purity has never been lost. Our inner happiness has never been absent.
So why do we not feel happy?
That is because, after so many years of living, you have created many memories in this lifetime, alongside many memories accumulated across numerous previous lives, “stored away,” amassed and added together. They all become a distorting layer that “covers” your entire “original nature.” There are many negative memories and bad experiences… And they cover all of your “innate nature” — happiness, love, joy and spontaneity…
Once this distorting layer becomes too thick, you can no longer “touch” the happiness “hidden deep” within you. You lose your connection with happiness! And you become an unhappy person.
That is the essence. Understanding this has such a profound effect that it can “blow away” your entire mind — when you realize it.
Life’s greatest mistake is believing we lack happiness and must rush outside to search for it.
So we need money to be happy, someone to love us to be happy, material possessions, fame, status, and recognition from others to be happy. All things outside ourselves.
This approach means thinking that our “core” is completely missing or empty, and that this “core” is happiness. So we rush outward and frantically try to “compensate” for that emptiness. Yet we feel increasingly empty and less happy… because we keep adding “masks,” “outer layers,” and “makeup” to that “core” without ever finding it.
Change your approach!
The truth is that your inner “core” is happiness, and it has never been lost. It has always been there. Too many things that are not happiness have simply covered it, preventing you from finding true happiness—happiness from within, or intrinsic happiness. Because you yourself, without any external conditions, already are happiness. Not that you are happy (You’re happy), but that you are happiness itself (You’re happiness).
So what you do is not rush outward to seek more to fill what you lack. Instead, let go of more and more of everything that prevents you from connecting with happiness and love.
Meditation is that letting go.
Because in meditation, through the techniques of practice, we gradually let go: of fame, status, and money, until even this body can be released; we let go of our mind and ego too…
It is positive letting go: not letting go to escape, but letting go to connect with what truly matters, your “core,” your “original nature.” Happiness.
That is why meditation can help you find true happiness within. That is why, in the story about the cosmetics corporation, I said that once the managers knew how to meditate, they did not need to be in the Maldives to feel happy. If happiness is within them, they can be happy right now, right here, anywhere and at any time. Because they themselves are happiness. They also found peace immediately, right then, when they followed the practice.
Why must we rush outward seeking things that are not ourselves in order to affirm who we already are?
That is a misconception. A deeply regrettable misconception in human life.
