I have watched the story of Hachiko, the dog faithfully waiting for his owner, in both the Japanese and Western versions, and cried at both. Now that I have the chance, I am determined not to miss the opportunity to visit this “little” friend.
Hachiko the dog is a symbol of loyalty and friendship. In a complicated modern society, Hachiko’s selfless, sincere, unchanging affection has become a symbol and a source of hope, because under any circumstances, no evil or temptation can shake it.
It is the same in life: if we always know we have a friend who will never abandon us, we will always retain hope and never fall into the abyss of despair.
How wonderful that a dog can teach humans so much. Thank you, Teacher Hachiko.
This is also the lively Shibuya area, a ‘meeting place’ for many young Japanese couples, from the getting-to-know-each-other stage to officially declaring their love. It also has a designated smoking area. I did not forget to photograph the busy Shibuya crossing, where standing right in the middle of the passing crowd would probably make me feel a little ‘Lost in transaction.’
