The Wellspring of Love
Have you ever stopped to observe a beggar?
Their pattern is simple: ask—receive—survive.
They are lacking, so they need to receive.
They seek someone more fulfilled than themselves, so they can receive.
Why?
Because you cannot give what you do not have.
Only when you have can you give.
Only when you are full can you give to those with less.
So the beggar is always drawn toward the person who has enough.
This is so obvious that you encounter it every day; you have simply never paid attention.
Are you thinking of money?
No.
What humanity “asks for” most is not money, but… love.
Begging for Love
A person who lacks love within themselves will become a “beggar for love.”
They seek someone overflowing with love to give them attention, affection, understanding and care.
But this life is truly fascinating.
You do not encounter only what you want.
You attract what you are.
The Universe operates through resonance, through waves in harmony.
So if you are a beggar for love inside, you will attract… another beggar for love.
At first, this is often skillfully concealed.
The other person may appear caring, loving, and unconditionally giving.
The Universe seems to be playing with you.
Then one day, when the mask falls and true colors return, you realize that person is also lacking, also demanding from you the very thing you are seeking.
Two beggars meet.
Both hold out their hands asking, yet neither has anything to give.
And so comes disappointment.
And so comes blame.
And so come demands.
“Why don't you love me anymore?”
“Why don't you care about me?”
Love keeps dwindling because there was little to begin with.
Arguments and suffering, until the day both let go.
Put gently, it is ‘letting go.’ To be frank, it is breaking up.
The Lesson Hidden Behind Pain
A meditation student once asked me:
“I have loved and cared so much, but time after time the other person rejects me. I am suffering deeply. What is my lesson here?”
Each person must see their own lesson.
Meditation will help you see.
But for readers to contemplate together, I share:
That person has a pattern of emotional dependence.
There is a lack of love within that person, so they give – hoping to receive in return.
Even if you say “giving unconditionally,” hidden expectations remain.
Others can feel the emptiness behind that gift.
And they leave.
Not because they are cruel, but because that energy makes their souls feel suffocated.
This is why someone who begs for love initially looks like someone who gives love.
They give, but in order to take.
When two beggars are together, they look at each other as mirrors reflecting their lack.
And they hurt.
Return to Fill the Emptiness
You must have before you can give.
To give love, first return and fill your own soul with love.
Meditation is not meant to make you unfeeling.
Meditation reconnects you with the underground stream of love flowing within.
A spiritual person values emotions rather than extinguishing them.
Let meditation help you touch that wellspring and feel it flowing through every cell.
Then you become peaceful; you become love.
Then you give without seeking anything in return.
You give because you are full.
Because the joy of giving is your joy.
And miraculously, the more you give, the more that spring overflows.
It never runs dry.
It is infinite.
The First Step
Before you love anyone else,
Learn to love yourself.
Sit down, breathe, and tell yourself:
“I love you.”
Repeat until your heart is moved.
Then one day, you will realize you are no longer a beggar for love.
You have become a wellspring of love for yourself and the world.
