The reason every startup fails that few admit: You are not good enough yet, that is all!

The root cause of every failure

In business, an entrepreneur's rate of growth determines the business's rate of growth. In other words, entrepreneurs set the “ceiling” for their entire venture. So the surest way to succeed in business is to become more capable—that is all.

“There are thousands of reasons for failure. But the cause of all causes, the deepest root cause, is you. It is because you were not good enough, that is all”, young entrepreneur Tạ Minh Tuấn wrote in his autobiographical account of entrepreneurship. He began his entrepreneurial journey at 19 and was selected for Forbes Vietnam's 30 Under 30 list.

Tạ Minh Tuấn said he had encountered this situation himself. After his first business grew and gained more customers, it exceeded his leadership capacity, and he could no longer serve it best in a co-executive role. He was “demoted” and given a title that sounded important but was actually largely nominal: Organization Development Director (Head of Organizational Development).

Of course, he was very sad, but quickly understood the issue. Tạ Minh Tuấn understood that in business, we sometimes need to “Step out” so we can “Step in.” If we are not yet capable enough, we should step back and let someone else do it.

“Meanwhile, we hone ourselves, waiting until we are ready to reclaim that position. I learned to choose and act not from ego or pride, but for the company's best interests,” the 30-year-old entrepreneur recalled. This became the guiding principle for all Tạ Minh Tuấn's subsequent thinking, decisions, and actions.

So he took 100% responsibility himself and began focusing on his own development, serving as well as possible in his current role, and finding ways to bring much more value to the company. Tạ Minh Tuấn developed quickly and soon produced many results for the company. Some time later, he therefore returned to the company's executive management, bringing his influence back to the entire business.

Ways to develop yourself

So what specific actions are needed for personal development? According to Inc magazine, there are many ways to help you grow and move beyond your limits.

1. Accept challenges

It is not easy when challenges arise and make life difficult. However, viewing challenges positively can help; do not let anxious emotions swallow you up.

You do not need to escape your uncomfortable emotions immediately or become overly attached to them. Painful moments in business come and go as part of life’s natural flow. Trust that every business challenge is there to help you grow, and do your best to live effectively when challenged.

2. See opportunities

When you view your business life only in terms of what you lack, you cannot appreciate what you have achieved so far.

Learn to see and appreciate all you have achieved and be grateful. Nothing is worse than being around someone who constantly complains about their business. Train yourself to see everything as an opportunity.

Learn to shift your thinking from negativity to gratitude. This attitude is highly valued. It makes you more enjoyable to work with, opening more opportunities.

3. Do not make it too serious

Laugh more, especially at yourself. Business life is busy, with packed schedules. You can easily get swept into a cycle of tasks along a fixed direction or path. If you stop laughing and act mechanically, you are living beneath a dark cloud.

Work is not always about completing tasks. Make time to change your routine and enjoy breaks that recharge your energy.

4. Help others

If you conduct your business life as though you are the center of the universe, you will struggle to exhaustion. If your entire business perspective revolves around yourself, you will not achieve lasting success.

Helping and supporting others to become happier and more successful is a path to success and to your own success.

5. Have a purpose

Setting goals and striving for something greater in your business life can help you live a richer life.

Everyone is here to work and act. Happiness comes after action and work. Without action, there is room for nothing but depression and negativity. By staying busy, pursuing business goals, creating, and innovating, you wake up with a purpose that motivates you to seek greater goals.

6. Choose your attitude

Change always begins within. In business, you can be your own best ally or worst enemy. Work will never be free of challenges. Even when you feel nothing is going your way, you can choose to seek alternatives.

Learn to change how you speak to yourself. You may be hardest on yourself when business does not go as planned. A negative, self-defeating inner stream erodes your focus on goals and dreams. Be kind to yourself and keep moving forward.

7. Work hard

Turn stress into positive action and motivation. All stress may pass. Do not let it paralyze your movement. When you focus on moving through work stress, it will dissipate faster.

8. Let go of the victim mindset

You cannot grow in your business if you see yourself as a victim. Each person is responsible for their own thoughts, attitude, and work ethic.

Practice taking full responsibility for your perspective and yourself in good or bad circumstances. If you consistently believe bad things happen to you, that also means refusing to actively claim success for yourself.
