The journey of paying it forward becomes more tangible through the project spreading Books among Vietnamese people. Thank you to Tuổi Trẻ and reporter Uyên Trinh felt deeply and wrote responsibly. Wishing Uyên Trinh continued growth in her writing, because society needs more conscientious journalists. Thank you, Professor, Teacher Phan Văn Trường and users provided practical suggestions!

I want to share a perspective that I feel needs to be expressed, but there was not enough room for it in the article.

I have no problem with legally licensed ebooks, but I do not support unauthorized sharing online when it violates copyright. Surely the lifetime of effort an author puts into a book is worth at least a bowl of phở you regularly eat for breakfast?

Some argue: I read unauthorized ebooks because I have no money, and I share ebooks to help others. We should not think that the end justifies the means. If the means are wrong, the goal, once reached, also turns to ashes in your hands. We should not create connections by creating more karma. Sharing free ebooks may seem helpful, but beware of creating karma. Put yourself in another person's position: if you have a product and someone takes it and distributes it illegally, you suffer harm. Do not do to others what you would not want done to yourself. To me, that is basic human understanding.

Of course, life is not absolute. Behavior may be flawed, but that does not make the person flawed. If a book is no longer available on the market, or you face severe financial hardship and need knowledge to escape poverty, then although nothing is absolute, please still minimize copyright infringement. There is already so much of it in Vietnam, and it has not made us better off!

If sharing ebooks is not allowed but we still need to spread a reading culture, we need another means of solving the problem above.

And that is why we have J.O.B.

J.O.B is a free book-exchange system created to fulfill that mission. First, it does not break the law. It complies with the law. It then offers benefits such as:

-It strengthens human connection. People can go offline for a while, visit a JOB physical location, borrow and exchange books, write reflections on them, and join the books' Pay It Forward journey, building relationships as they interact through exchanging books and sharing their impressions. It increases connection only a little, but that is necessary in today's society, where the offline interactions that improve quality of life are lacking!

-It strengthens appreciation for knowledge. It also contributes to raising public knowledge, even just a tiny bit. But if many people act together, each doing their small part well, perhaps society has hope!

Join Hành Trình Sách to borrow, exchange, and contribute books at Hanhtrinhsach.com. Our user numbers are soaring. Be part of the change!
