A Journey of Service

For the past 3 days, we devoted ourselves to the “entrepreneurs” in Hanoi. Classes started at 9 a.m. and ended at 5 a.m. (yes, 5 a.m.; that is not a typo). Afterward, I had only 1 hour to return and wash up before speaking at the “call” of Hanoi University of Industry. I really should not have been able to make it, but I truly appreciated the university's enthusiasm, and once there, felt even less regret. Then I flew straight back to Saigon. Still short on sleep now : )

Some interesting things:

-The oldest student this time was born in 1967 and is a manufacturing plant director at 1 major pharmaceutical company in Vietnam. The second oldest was born in 1969 and has a doctorate in science (with genuine overseas study, not the kind of doctorate based on a dissertation analyzing “Flattery Behavior in Vietnamese” that has stirred public debate recently — though I actually think that dissertation topic is… quite interesting J). Last month's class in Saigon also included 1 doctor of psychology with a solid academic background, constantly learning.

-The new training technology that YUP and I have developed recently is not about teaching people to get rich or pumping up their spirits. It lights an enduring flame within people, helping students absorb a vast amount of thinking, knowledge, and skills in a short time without becoming overloaded, reaching the roots of simplicity. It helps students transform visibly and achieve immediate results, and that transformation remains when we meet again after some time. Because it is not illusory; it brings students closer to the truth. It is certainly unlike traditional methods, because traditional teaching methods have failed to produce successful “products” for society, and wanting different results without changing methods is what Einstein called “stupidity.” This technology cannot be copied, because any imitation would only reproduce its superficial outward form, not its inner essence. I am truly grateful to my parents, both teachers, for bringing me into the world with an educator's “instinct.” At this point, I would like to allow myself that “self-description” : )

-When I came to speak with the students, I was very sleepy and nodded off in the taxi on the way. I was quite tired, but I thought that since this was our mission, I should keep going. Afterward, I saw that the students were “on fire,” with a flame in their eyes instead of the initial dullness. I asked, “Sorry I was a little sleepy today. Did I manage to pass my sleepiness on to you?” — They all replied, “No!”

We are happy and feel this has been a meaningful day. The road is still long; river water does not intrude on well water. Let us walk our path and focus on our goals, T&T, and dear Yuppies too: be successful, be happy, and come aboard with us.
