Is it realization or supernatural power?
Many enter spiritual practice seeking supernatural powers, wanting to open their 3rd eye and awaken chakras 6 and 7.
At first, that too is 1 motivation for diligence in practice and for forming an affinity with the spiritual path. However, we must know how to transform that motivation into one that can help us walk this path more sustainably.
Actually, in many spiritual traditions, attaining this or that realization, this supernatural power or that experience does matter, but it does not matter excessively.
Because having those things does not mean spiritual maturity.
On the contrary, supernatural powers can easily create craving, arrogance, and greater attachment. Yet such powers are not inherently difficult to achieve in this 4.0 era. Being able to read each other's messages while thousands of kilometers apart is already a kind of supernatural communication.
Throughout religious history, there is no shortage of stories of people who, despite possessing supernatural powers and miracles, were killed horribly because of complacency and because they had not transformed and balanced all their karma.
Once chakras 6 and 7 have opened, they almost never close again. Spiritual practice is like opening 1 door into a new dimension. Once that door opens, the Buddha can lead us, God can lead us, but so can demons. We may then become deeply confused, with chaotic energy and even unfortunate incidents.
So opening those gateways before purifying your inner energy can lead to many unnecessary problems.
Cleansing inner energy is meditation: observing and transforming memories, receiving lessons, acting in real life, developing qualities, and awakening multidimensional, comprehensive qualities across 360 degrees (like 1 Buddha).
Without purifying yourself and developing your qualities, even if you ascend, reach Source, enter meditative absorption, or know a great deal about cosmic spirituality, it all has only a little effect in that moment. Information about cosmic spirituality is only information, not transformation. After ascending, you will descend. After connecting with Source, once the connection ends, the ‘distortions’ of your qualities, memories, and karma pull you down again (‘heavy’ goes down, ‘light’ goes up). If you enter absorption during meditation, you are happy and peaceful only while meditating. Once you finish, greed, aversion, and delusion remain as usual, perhaps even more subtly, shifting from material greed, aversion, and delusion to spiritual greed, aversion, and delusion.
So the most important thing on the spiritual path is not this attainment or that supernatural power, but Developing Qualities.
A gun falling into the hands of a 3-year-old will only bring the child harm. It would be better for that “power” to be in the hands of someone with sufficient wisdom and qualities.
Once we have fully developed our qualities, we are entirely natural and ready to receive this awakening, that opening, or another attainment. We awaken while still blending into worldly life.
And that is also spiritual maturity.
