The Amazon and hope

These are Indigenous people living on the edge of the Amazon Rainforest, on the side closer to Brazil. Over the past few days, they may have had to live under a pitch-black sky.

The Amazon forest was where a series of ‘strange’ experiences began, and where our daughter Max began choosing to come to us.

The Amazon is burning at record levels, and if it keeps burning like this, the forest may disappear and even the river may dry up. This is no small matter.

Emotion! But what we can do is continue our path of social transformation, creating a society of peace, love, and truth.

I promised Max that at around 5, I would let the child “return” to the Amazon, and I hope there is still a forest to return to then.

Forests burn because human minds also ‘burn,’ reflecting falseness, escalating material demands, and mental energy moving toward destruction through imbalance between outside and inside, matter and soul. We bear some responsibility. Humans need to understand that they are not Earth’s masters but part of Earth. Those two ways of thinking lead to entirely different choices of behavior.
